I love blogging.
Besides watching college football and eating, it is my favorite hobby. Fact is, I'm not sure WHICH of those three things I love best.
What I love "bestest" about blogging is finding new friends and making new connections - - - new threads to weave into the tapestry of life.
But let's be honest. That "connection" doesn't happen with every blogger you run across in the universe-wide web. Just as in real life friendships, the "bosom" ones are rare and far between.
Yes, I said bosom.
Some bloggers you run across in this wide universe and nearly instantly there is a click. Before you know it you are weaving your bloggy threads together into a most satisfying and gorgeous tapestry.
Then others - - - uh - - - not so much.
I really do try to be selective about which blogs I decide to follow, because I take my following responsibility very seriously.
But IT happens all the time - - - you get a fun/funny/affirming comment from some new blogger, or you happen across a new blog which reaches out and grabs you in some way and you think, "now THIS is a blogger with whom I could tango."
Then, after a while you realize, 'Ummmmm - - - not so much, we're not even twisting!"
Now you have a blog-follow issue. Your follow list is getting longer and longer but you are really only communicating with a handful.
We bloggers are a "heady" bunch - - - we NOTICE our follow numbers. We throw a party over ever single NEW follower and go into weeks of mourning, including sack cloth and ashes, over every one lost.
Oh come on - - - admit it - - - that blog followers number is as big to the adult you as the whole popularity scale thing was to the pimply high school you.
So, from time to time, even knowing some poor bloggers WILL lose one of their coveted follower numbers, you just simply have to weed.
You go through your list.
You look for those you no longer recognize the blog name.
You check to see if the blog is even still in existence.
Then, with tears streaming down your cheeks for THEIR loss, you click to un-follow.
Yes, today was THAT day for me.
I put on my bloggy big girl panties and axed right through my "blogs I follow" list.
Sigh.

I guess since I'm still hearing from you that I wasn't on the chopping block this time. Thank you!!! Although, I will say that I kinda deserve it since I've been a terrible reader and commenter lately.
And, to your point? Yes, I've been weeding a little myself lately. And trying to catch up. Makes me feel like I've accomplished something!
I'm stuck at 87 followers and that includes several family members who never read the blog because they all gave up on blogging on their own.
I guess I made the cut ... this is good writing by the way. :-)
Whew! I made the cut Too!
It is hard to do but I think we all need to 'weed' occasionally! You will always be on my list cause you Miss Keetha are a unique kind of gal and I like you!!
hugs,
Linda
As difficult as it is, sometimes we just need to thin out our "blogs I follow" list. I justified it by reminding myself that I don't want to be a slave to my Reader ... that as much as I love blogging, I need to also have a relationship with my IRL people as well as my blogging people. In that light, it was easier for me to edit out those with whom there just isn't that "connection".
I don't know how to weed!
Yes, the beauty of the blogworld is the tapestry that we weave.
That is a tough one for me too!
I look at a blog and sometimes wonder why I ever started following it.
But now I realize there are some I can occasionally just read and not actually worry about commenting if I don't want to.
I find that my connections are mostly from the ones I made fairly early on in my blogging life.
I lost a follower yesterday...now Keetha that wasn't you was it? lol.
Hugs!!!
I did that the other day as well. There was a crapload of blogs that hadn't had a post in a year and they were cut. Then there were the followers that never interacted with me at all, just followed hoping I would follow back. I don't play that game. You must comment and converse with me to get my attention.
Yeah, I need to do that, too. I mean, there's only so much time in the day, right?
We won't mention that I haven't blogged at all this week. Hopefully I'm still on your "bosom" list. That's assuming I ever was. Which I do. Assume, that is.
The list that I am following is getting to large for me to handle. When I began following them, I wouldn't be hurt if they followed me back. Having said that, I'd be thrilled if they did. I don't have as nearly as many followers as you do. I think I'd go crazy trying to keep up with it all.
ps. I hope you didn't weed me out! xoxo
Did you just say "PANTIES" to the whole wide world?!
I have weeded over the years but I never delete anyone! I just put them in a folder in my reader that I don't read anymore.
I have an issue with blogger and for about a year now I haven't been able to stop following any of the blogs I follow and it's driving me nuts. I have contacted their help forum but just get ignored.
You are so right, Keetha. Painful but necessary to weed sometimes. I used to subscribe to every blog I enjoyed reading and as long as the post came in the mailbox, I read the post and went over to comment and share on social media.
But as the list grows, and as the "connect" never happens with some people, it becomes tough to keep up.
Now. I'd be devastated if I didn't visit your blog, because it is happy hour all the way for me!
I like how well you've expressed something we all feel in this post. Hugs!
Did I say I am glad we are connected? Okay, I'll say it again! :D
I've even found myself reading blogs that frequently raise my blood pressure over one thing or another. Silliness. Into every garden, a little weeding must come. ;)
