Earlier I posted a tribute to my Aunt Doris. This little house is the place where all those memories were made. Sister Pam, Dad, and I made a trip down memory lane to see it.
She's looking pretty fine with her new vinyl siding and freshly painted gray trim, isn't she?
The leaded glass topper in this picture window was kept on the house when the siding upgrade went in. I'm so glad.
And the wooden door behind this glass storm door is as old as I am. I hope the new owners restore and retain it instead of trading it in for a newer model with no history.
And now for a peek at the back of the house. Notice the "double deck" porches.
The top porch is the sleeping porch where we spent hours and hours playing and sleeping.
Such good times.

Good pics - makes me lonesome for "the days". What's the address to Luke's blog? I googled his YouTube video, and you were right, he's fantastic!!
Pam, I tried to search YouTube for Luke's video and couldn't find it. What did you enter in your search?
Luke's blog isn't currently active (no updates since September I belive), but here's where to find it:

That is a darling house! I love the leaded glass window.
That is such a cute house. Glad you got to take a trip down memory lane.
I love that house!
I bet that sleeping porch was a lot of fun. The leaded glass is lovely! If those folks don't keep the door, someone will take it. Those old doors are treasures to so many folks.
BTW, the video I posted late last night works, you just had to go to my blog to see it. :) Sorry to confuse.
I how I really want a double decker sleeping porch. I bet there were porch swings too, right?
It's beautiful! I hope they continue to keep the history too. I wish I could have been in a position to buy our 'family' house in Memphis when my grandmother could no longer stay there. So many memories.
Sounds like you had a lovely trip, despite the circumstances.
Kim Sue - - - No, they didn't have a swing on the porch, but that would have been a fabulous idea. Perhaps the new owners will put one up.
That is so Wisconsin, and how wonderful to have such memories! Was the sleeping porch always enclosed or was it open and airy "back in the day"?
Definately a Wisconsin home! Love the sleeping porch. Cindy
I read the phrase on your header "His grace is new each morning" and got goosebumps. That spoke to me this morning Keetha.
We lost my Aunt Jackie to cancer and my cousin sold her house. We spent SO MANY of our holidays at her house and she was always gracious and giving with her hospitality. ALL were welcome in her home and thus there were people at her table who weren't even welcome at their family's table.
I rode by her house several times after it was sold. A gentleman was in the yard when I drove by one day (this is not just in our neighborhood - her house was a 45 minute drive from my house). I stopped and spoke and told him about Jackie. I told him she loved her house and welcomed everyone. He seemed to appreciate that and invited me to come and see the house when they finished remodeling. I never went but I haven't felt the need to drive by ever again either. It's like I know it has been entrusted to someone that she would approve of.
WOO! What a comment. Sorry for the length. Warm {{HUGS}} and thank you for sharing your memories and allowing me to share mine.
That house looks so cozy and cute!
What a beautiful house.
I've never seen a house like that! It's beautiful!
I love that house! Keetha, it's more special now that you can see how truly wonderful your time was in a loving place, isn't it?
How fun to go back and especially see that it has been well maintained. Aunt Doris would be proud!
what a precious home, where some wonderful memories were made.
I googled Carousel Transylvania U on YouTube's search. Only two came up that are from their production & only "When the Children are Asleep" has Luke in it.
Neat house. It reminds me a little bit of my dad's because it's pretty square.
Keetha, great pictures. Unfortunately you could not capture what I consider to be the full character of the house - the woodwork. For those of you who were never in the house it had beautiful stained wood in the downstairs, a built-in buffet and two colonnades with built-in book glass enclosed bookcases that separated the dining room and bedroom. The house truly had character.
Thank you, Michael B. What he is describing is all true - - - it had a California style bungalow craftsman style interior.
Ugh, I believe my dad meant to say dining room and LIVING room. :P
Oh, and I just realized that I received a compliment on my singing! :) Thanks, Pam! If you couldn't find the video, Keetha, it's here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJqC0JXQwsk
Okay, I will stop lurking around old posts now. :) (But my dad told me he commented on this post...so I then had to read it. And realize his silly mistake.)
Luke - - - lurk away all you want!!! I get an e-mail notification of every comment, so I always find them.
Lovely home! And that leaded glass...ohhhhhh.....
They'd be crazy to get rid of the door. It's the first thing that drew us to the shore house, and we'd never ever give it up!
I agree with you - - - but some people don't see the value in old things, and I don't know ANYTHING about the family that now owns the house.
