Many of you have asked where in the world I've been.

All I know is that after 7 plus years of blogging and a different lappy, which I don’t like, I seem to have lost my blogging fervor.

Someday, when you least expect it, I will post again.

For those of you still waiting I say thank you.

Meanwhile, I am rather prolific on twitter. Find me: @KeethaB

Returning To My Dry and Dusty City

.

Yesterday Fisherhubby and I returned home from our very restful and enjoyable two week vacation in the northwoods.

As we wended our way toward home Fisherhubby, who is quite directionally challenged and may or may not be able to find his way out of a paper bag without my direction (eh-hem), missed the entrance to the interstate.

I knew where he was headed would take us quite a ways off the beaten path, so I began to look for a highway that would return us to the interstate.

In Wisconsin most of the county highways are assigned a letter of the alphabet rather than a number.

So we have P's, Q's, and even Z's all over the place.

When a county has more than 26 roads, it begins to use double letters.

Back to my story - - - I noticed on the map that the next road that would take us over to an interstate exchange was HH.

I told Fisherhubby that unless he WANTED to take a bit of a round about detour for the sake of seeing the countryside, he could take HH to the left a few miles ahead and that would put us right back on the interstate.

He said he was sure he wouldn't be able to find HH.

Oh I did bite and said, "Why not?"

"I won't be able to see it," says he.

"What do you mean you won't be able to see it????" queried I.

"Well," says he, "I don' t know my AA, BB, CC's."

"If you don't know them, how do you know they go AA, BB, CC?" I asked. (I do step right into his plots, don't I?)

"That's all the farther I know them." Says he.

* * * * * * * * * * * *

You may notice that my two above photos show progressively browner and crispier vegetation.

That's because I took those pictures in sequence as we got closer to our county. While we enjoyed 5 or 6 healthy showers/storms just 3 and a half hours north at the lake, only a few teaser drops of rain fell on our city.

The last photo is our front yard.

That's what happens when your lawn hasn't had more than teaser drops of rain since May.

It's called a drought, and we've got it.

And that's what's happening in our city, what's the news in yours?

Glad you finally found your way home. Maybe you should do the driving. In Texas, we know what the word drought is all about. Had 107 yesterday and no rain in sight.

Just some county road trivia to add to your blog...

County Trunk Highways
Each county in Wisconsin maintains its own Country Trunk Highway (CTH) system, where routes are designated by letters instead of numbers. While the designation of some county highways may cross into two or more counties, any individual letter will appear many times in different parts of the state. The County Trunk Highway designations can be one-, two-, or three-letters in length. This system has its beginnings in 1921 and by 1924, each county in the state laid out a system of county-maintained routes, exclusive of the state trunkline system—but without legislative authorization. Then in 1925, the Wisconsin state legislature authorized the system, which had been in place already in some counties for more than four years. Today, there are occurrences where some imagination has gone into the designation of county highways. For example, the County Trunk Highway which runs along the county line between Kenosha and Racine Counties is CTH-KR, the former US-12/US-18 in Madison running along Broadway is CTH-BW (for BroadWay), and CTH-LO (formerly STH-99 until January 1999) was named in honor of former Waukesha County Board Chairman Lloyd Owens. (Now that you're home...don't stop the blogging!)

Glad you found your way back home.
That is sad about your grass. Are you not allowed to water it? Would you have watered it if you had been home? Could a neighbor have watered it?

Love going off the beaten track! We don't get to do that as often with the kids but I love when we can...

Wow. That's dry. My hometown in Louisiana received a gusher on Thursday, drowning a few cars in the commercial areas. No one died but several trucks and cars were floating down the highway. Lack of water and too much: both are bad news.

Just got caught up..looks like a fun time!
I loved the fish count, showed that to Dan, he sure got a kick out of that too.
We got rain yesterday, a whole 3/4 of an inch! But hey, it was something!
Glad you had a great time, boy summer flies doesn't it?
Hugs,
Cindy

I got out the water sprinkler to save my flowers and bushes. I got distracted and forgot to turn it off. My yard is green again, but my water bill…. OUCH!

My yard looks a bit like that too. We need rain in the Midwest!

I've never seen highways like that - and reading the comments - same name in different counties for different roads. Really, did someone plan this so out of state folks would always be lost?

Dry and dusty here as well. Sounds like a fantastic vacation.

The vacation sounds like and amazing break from the dry dusty reality of home. I hope your drought breaks soon. My kids have lived most of their lives in drought, but fortunately it has ended, for now. Bring on the rain for you and sunshine for us!

Wow, our front lawn is the opposite. But we are having some sun now!

Oh...Fisherhubby's beloved lawn is so sad! Ours is just as bad. Even the weeds will hardly grow. I heard on the news this a.m. that my city is 10+ inches behind on rain for the year.
