Many of you have asked where in the world I've been.

All I know is that after 7 plus years of blogging and a different lappy, which I don’t like, I seem to have lost my blogging fervor.

Someday, when you least expect it, I will post again.

For those of you still waiting I say thank you.

Meanwhile, I am rather prolific on twitter. Find me: @KeethaB

Wherein I Could Have USED a Wallah to Help Me!

.

WARNING NUMBER ONE: If your name is Keri Rachelle Broyles Baker and IF your date of birth is November 21, 1976 and IF you plan to come to Wisconsin some day and IF you don't want to see anything you don't want to see BEFORE you come, then THIS is your spoiler alert. I'm just sayin'.

WARNING NUMBER TWO: If you can't get "past" nekked concrete and unfinished dry wall you may want to click away from this blog post, 'cause it is rife with both and the owner of this blog does NOT own this house, and furthermore she has worked toooooo hard to be OPEN to "I'd paint or hide that concrete" comments. Just sayin'.

Still with me?

All righty then - - -

I have been MIA in blogland for much of the past two weeks because I was working to convert a "raw" little room in my basement into a cozy bedroom bungalow for visitors- - - if and when they should come.

I REALLY wish I would have taken a "before" picture, but I never thought of it. I really LOVE all of you my bloggy readers, but NOT ENOUGH to remove what I've done to the room just to take a "before."

Sorry.

Take my word for it - - - it was an empty (except for moving boxes) room with a hideous mess of electrical cords and breaker box at one end, water and drain pipes from ceiling to floor at the other end, and a hot water heater in the center of the wall between those two hideousities.

Much of the decor you are about to see, like books, tea items, quilt, and bits of lace I "shopped" for in my own stuff. Other things I picked up here and there around town for little or nothing. The most expensive item in the lot was the queen size mattress set.

So, without further ado, I give you my Basement Bedroom Bungalow:

Let's start with the bed. I found the "pineapple" finial header and footer in my new favorite little shoppe, Cranberry Creek. I first thought I would purchase a bit of lace or netting or something to "swag" over the bed. Then I remembered these curtains THAT I ALREADY HAD and I thought, "Voila!!!"

Big thanks to Fisherhubby are in order here - - - he hung the curtain rods using nearly invisible fishing line (what else!?). That fishing line was slippery and got away from him several times eliciting words out of his mouth that I shall NOT print here. Of course, I wasn't too sympathetic about the short little 45 minutes or so he spent doing it since I WORKED LIKE A TROJAN on this room for the ENTIRE time he was chasing green scaly wet critters in Canada. ;-)

To the right of the bed is this little desk/chair ensemble. I got them from Cranberry Creek also.

BTW - - - Miss Cranberry (Jodi) at the Creek is just the BEST - - - I'll be dedicating an entire post to her and her lovely little shoppe in a few days.

I got a pair of matching table lamps for $12 - - - including shade - - - at Dollar General, I LOVE that store!!!

The pen and ink drawing is a little treasure I already had. It depicts the lead characters in a Christmas Musical of which I was a part for many years in Indiana.

The boxes are wardrobe boxes which we purchased for our move. I kept them to use as closet space in the basement. One of them contains my winter things and the other is empty to be used by guests. They ALSO completed the wall from the back of the stairway to the outside wall.

Ah ha! Here we can see how I hid the ugly breaker box behind some panels of lace - - - which I already had. And what's that behind the shutter doors? Oh yes, THAT would be the hot water heater!!

The twin bed we already had, I just made it LOOK like a day bed with pillows. I did go way out on a limb and splurge for $2.50 pillows to stuff inside the shams and pillow cases, what a sham(e)! Hehehehe

One pillow case and the off white blanket are the only new items here besides the $2.50 pillows.

A couple of weeks ago at church, I overheard someone giving away this cabinet sewing machine. I snatched it right up as a bedside table. There is an old fashioned black Pfaff sewing machine - - - in working condition I'm told - - - inside there.

I don't sew, or go with those who do, but I liked the table for my OWN purposes.

IT

IS

HEAVY.

Fisherhubby will probably NOT be so happy with me if we ever need to move again and these things have to come back up OUT of that basement - - - oh well, we'll cross THAT proverbial bridge when we GET to it.

I hung guest towels on the bed footer. (No, of course we will NOT hang them there wet - - - just to set your mind at ease!)

The corner "ensemble" is hiding a multitude of drain and water pipe "sins." I got the white cupboard, made from an old door split down the middle and then reattached on a 90 degree angle, from Cranberry Creek. The old door I got for $15 out of "Howie's" garage.

Howie sells "things" out of his garage most days.

Don't even ASK what kind of things.

I saw a potty for sale there - - - I'm just sayin'.

The little dresser and the apple pitcher atop it both came from Cranberry Creek. The dresser is empty (except for the screws to hold the mirror in place) ready for guests to move right in.

I'm really excited to report that the white "door" corner cupboard came complete with it's original "diamond" door knob!!! I think my "kids" will LOVE that as we once lived in a house replete with diamond door knobs.

Fisherhubby has quite a collection of "big little books" and the white cupboard makes a PERFECT display area for them, previously they were just "rotting away" in a moving box.

And I saved this, one of my favorite little bits, for last!! It is an OLD wooden window frame, sans the glass panes. I cleaned it up a bit by rubbing some rosewood tung oil on it, draped it with a little bit 'o lace - - - and VOILA!!! (That's French, and the CORRECT way to express surprised joy delight, in case you're wondering. A "wallah" is a common laborer, and has absolutely NOTHING in common with surprised joy delight, just so you know.)

Now to quote Bugs Bunny: "That's All Folks!!" Hope you enjoyed my little Basement Bedroom Bungalow tour.

I'm linking this post with Vintage Thingie Thursday at Coloradolady and Thrifty Thursday at Bloggeritaville. It's been a long time since I joined these parties 'cause I've already shown most of my vintage thriftiness - - - so with all this new "splurge" I'd better join up while I can!

YOU ARE BRILLIANT. Really. That guest room is adorable, well thought out, cozy, pretty -- it's wonderful! AND it's so well planned to camouflage the not-so-pretty necessities -- terrific.

Plus that white shelf made from the bifold door? We have a white bifold door without any job to do and I was about to try and give it away, but after seeing yours it may find new life!

It showws your hard work, and all the love and care that went into planning it.

Now ... do the Bears have a room for their guests?

Keetha, you amaze me. All I could think of was that I have the exact same two cardboard wardrobe boxes in my laundry room and that is all I could visualize in that space.
You have given me inspiration to fix up the area regardless of how "finished" the rest of the space is.
Great job girl. Nice to know I have a place to crash if I am ever in town.

Keetha - this looks fabulous! So warm and cozy that you really don't even notice that it's a basement. You have outdone yourself!

Well worth the work. I'm so happy you could find so much great gear 'shopping' in your own stuff. The basement necessities are hidden and it all looks so cozy.

Great use of screens and doors and found objects. You get my Decorator Prize, and you know how coveted that is! LOL

Good work, Sister-of-Mine! It looks very cozy. I just need to know where the doorway is since you completed the one visible opening with the closet boxes...I don't imagine that guests have to scrunch in between those!

wow. wow. wow. I'd love to be a houseguest. What a cozy little guest "chamber" you have created out of sheer c r e a t i v i t y. Love your cardboard closets! This reminds me of what a basement is, as we don't have them here in the south and I miss them. And it reminds me of the time my dad was adding on to our house and we had to create a bedoom in the attic for awhile after a new baby arrived and we became squished for room. It was very similar (and of course the cool time of year in ILL.)

Simply put, "you rock!"
P.S. Do you notice how many comments you have? Women seem to love the decor posts! :-)

So there you are Keetha!
I've been wondering about you although I am MIA a lot too because of a little 9 month old miss!
You did good on the bedroom girlfriend! A cozy retreat for all that come to visit you!
Hugs,
Cindy

That looks great and now I'm kicking myself for not buying that old door at the garage sale to have been made into a corner shelf! Now I will be looking for one you know!
