Over my ten years at Lakeview Christian School some of my students, for one reason or another, have chosen to leave our school to attend one of the bigger city or county High Schools.
Each spring Marion High School has a banquet to recognize their honor students. Each honor student invites two of their former teachers to attend the banquet with them. During the program when the student is called forward, their parents and two teachers accompany them.
This year three of those seniors asked me to come stand with them for this lovely event. (One of them ended up not being able to attend, so she will not be pictured here.)
This is why we teach - to have some measure of influence in the lives of our students. And those students that "get it" are the stars - - - they are stars in our teacher crowns.
AneeshI was Aneesh's 6th and 7th grade science teacher.
I have never had a student like him.
He came into my classroom every day
Ready to SOAK up learning.
He made me a better teacher.
I'm getting tears in my eyes just
Thinking of the joy it was to be his teacher.

You certainly have a teacher's heart. Your students are fortunate to have you, and this is proof that some of the students recognized the gift you've been to them. Congratulations to both students and teachers.
If I'd had you as a teacher for 5 years, you would certainly be real constant in my formative years! I can completely understand why Christine included you.

Kirby - I think the reason I was surprised about Christine is that while Aneesh is very effervescent and told me all along that I was his "favorite teacher ever," Christine was quiet and never said a thing about it.

Drew is just in kindergarten, but I cannot tell you how much I value good quality teachers who care. We have been sooo blessed to have wonderful teachers for preschool and kindergarten-which has made him LOVE school and learning. I have friends whose children have not been that lucky, and it's made such a difference in their attitude of school.
What I'm trying to say is CONGRATS Keetha! I can tell you love your job and your students. We need more Keetha's in our school systems! :) If you ever move to Ohio....

I can't think of a better way to use your life or a more rewarding experience than to have young people say YOU were the one who made such a difference. I am in awe.

Aneesh was one of his favorites when he coached. Aneesh & Amit saw Doug just the other day & come right up to him to chat, calling him "Coach". They are such great kids.
