Many of you have asked where in the world I've been.

All I know is that after 7 plus years of blogging and a different lappy, which I don’t like, I seem to have lost my blogging fervor.

Someday, when you least expect it, I will post again.

For those of you still waiting I say thank you.

Meanwhile, I am rather prolific on twitter. Find me: @KeethaB

Welcome to My Groovy Thrifty Vintage Thingies Love-In

.

It's time for Vintage Thingie Thursday at Coloradolady and Thrifty Thursday at Bloggeritaville.

Be sure you click on both of the above links to check out what everyone else is posting.

A while back, somebody made a vintage thingie post about an oval pyrex baking dish with a lid. I looked at that dish, and I said to myself:

"SELF!!! Is THAT vintage???? Why, you were given one of THOSE as a wedding gift!!! Do you suppose that makes it vintage now? And if IT is vintage, what does that say about YOU???"

Well, the idea for this post was born in my mind right at that moment. Of course, I've had to do several holiday posts and other things that seemed more urgent in between that day and this, but FINALLY the Groovy Thrifty Vintage Thingie Love-In post was born!

All the items in this post were BRAND NEW to me back in the 70's.

Enjoy - - -

Here she is. The dish that inspired it all. It was a wedding gift given to us on May 24, 1975!!! Because I still USE it I never gave one THOUGHT to it being VINTAGE.

It has a pretty little lid. I used to LOVE using it because it's JUST THE RIGHT SIZE for dinner for two.

Then the kids came along - - - and it was too small.

Seems like it would be handy again now that we are empty nesters - - - but of course, that WOULD require me to cook - - - -

Another pyrex baking dish wedding gift - - - this one in the very common (in 1975 anyway) and very popular Corn Flower Blue pattern.

Hmmmmmm - - - wonder when was the last time I actually USED it???

This wedding gift is one of the original Crock-Pots.

The crock liner does NOT come out for washing and you aren't supposed to submerge the whole thing in water. Makes for a bit of a clean-up challenge. I've evidently conquered the challenge, because it still works!

If you didn't think avacodo green was "neato" you could always choose burnt orange.

I kid you not.

I DO use it from time to time when I'm making food for a football party or something.

This was the stoneware I chose before we got married. The pattern is called "Anenome." I only received 4 place settings of it. We always thought we would add more pieces - - - but you know, starting out on half a shoe string, there never seemed to be enough money to get more, and we never did.

I've never seen any of it in an antique shop or thrift store. One day I will spy some, and then I will GRAB IT UP!

My wedding "silver" - - - which since I'm a very practical kind of gal is actually stainless. It's an Oneida pattern, but for the LIFE of me, I cannot remember the name.

We did have a full set of this, but a few pieces have gone on vacation over the years and must have enjoyed those exotic locales, because they never returned to the roost.

NOW - - - DRUM ROLL PLEASE!!

INTRODUCING THE PIECE de RESISTANCE:

My high school loose-leaf notebook!!!! Now, if that doesn't "grab" you and make you croon, "far out man," nothing will!!!

My dad still had this after all these years. I had COMPLETELY forgotten about it until he gave it back to me at Christmas time.

"Breaker, breaker good buddy!! We interrupt this post for a correction: SISTER PAM had my notebook and returned it to me at Thanksgiving. She has no idea when or why dad wrote his name in it. Ten four, over and out."

Just look on the inside cover:

That is a strip of white bandage adhesive tape that the high school girl in me put on the black backing on the inside of the front cover so I could print my name there.

Keetha Heavilin Caf. (Cafeteria) H.R. That was me - - - and I HATED that homeroom. There were like 80 of us in there with two teacher monitors who gave me a detention for asking my neighbor if I could borrow an eraser. I thought those monitors were mean because - - -

You KNOW I was quiet and shy and NEVER talked in homeroom, don't you?????

HA

Look again at my self-made name tag. My parents, and their "Great Generation", are the REAL inventors of recycling and repurposing!! Look at my name. At some point after I abandonded this notebook in his home, my dad "gently" recycled it for his own use!!!!

And look - - - it still has the yellowed loose leaf paper in it!!! I'm not sure if this was paper I put in, or some my dad added later.

The picture makes the paper look white - - - but trust me, it is yellowed.

I don't know if I want to USE this paper, or keep it as a treasured vintage piece.

And in the back - - - vintage pocket dividers.

Look closely - - - even the paper and the dividers have been repurposed!!!! Appears they were "cut" out of a spiral notebook.

I wish I could tell you a fun and witty tale of how/why these papers were recycled, but unless I MAKE IT UP OUT OF THE CLEAR BLUE, I cannot.

Hope you enjoyed your sashay down '70's memory lane with me. I know it is making visions of high school dance in MY head.

My Pyrex casseroles are older than yours and I still use them. They nest and have flat tops so they are easy to store.

I had a burnt orange crockpot in the same design as yours but a smaller size. I finally got rid of it a couple years ago because I have a newer and bigger one.

You have taken very good care of your blue pyrex dish. IT's a beauty! I have the cornflower blue pyrex - in two sizes. We still use those. I used to have an avocado green crockpot, but it bit the dust one day while in use. It was a very sad day.

My spell checker wanted me to change crockpot to crackpot. LOL Made me laugh!

All of the dishes and platters that I got from my grandmother had that same tape on it with her name. I don't know how that stuff ever came off of skin, it never comes off anything!

You have a great variety of vintage items. I still have several Pyrex dishes like these. I do not use them much anymore since I cook very little. It is hard to cook for one. I hope someone else will enjoy them as much as I have.

Love this post, thank you!

I had the burnt orange crockpot! My Corning Ware was the "Spice of Life" pattern. My pyrex was avacado. I still use them! My silverware is Paul Revere and it looks like yours. Most of mine has disappeared as well- I imagine that it rode off with the teenagers who were apt to eat a bowl of cereal as they drove to school!

That 1st blue dish is very pretty. I've not seen one with a patterned lid.

Great post. I do remember some of those and I still have some. I have my avacodo blender and it still works. I have two electric knives that we still use and some pryex baking dishes. I even had avacodo appliances! I had some flower dishes from the grocery store Jewels that they used on That 70's Show!

It is so funny when I see these pieces at the thrift stores or antique shops. YES I've got some pieces that were wedding gifts back in the 70's too! But we were very VERY young back then, right? Happy VTT!

Cute post! My mom still has the crock pot and pyrex dish too. I've never seen that dish pattern though. It all reminds me of the orange, gold and brown teapot wallpaper in mom's kitchen in the 70's!

Love the first dish--very pretty! Why oh why didn't they make turquoise crock pots??? And I am a firm believer in making up stories to enhance the 'truth!'

I have a pyrex dish in cornflower blue, a wedding gift a few years before you! Guess I should show it for VTT!

Your Pyrex bowls are beautiful. - I remember there was a third colour choice to avocado or burnt orange: dark brown. I preferred brown.

Love the pyrex! Doesnt everyone??? You could use them...if you don't throw them in the dishwasher they should stay pretty nice and shiny! I have to say I love the notebook too! It is very retro! LOL

Hi Keetha,
Loved seeing your pieces...especially your dishes! I've never seen that pattern, either. It's really lovely! = )

Like Ulla, I had the dark brown non-submersible crockpot. And did I ever use it!

Seeing these vintage items was like visiting with old buddies. Everyone looked familiar except your dishes. I had some freebies from the grocery store. They were green and very handsome, but didn't have any serving pieces, as I recall.

Everything you've shown here is so neat! I love the casserole dishes and the design on that plate is simply fabulous!

Great stuff! Love the notebook! Gotta love the seventies. I think we had those pyrex too. I have one from my wedding gifts. The pattern is bit different. Boy those things have held up well. I wish I had more, I guess I have a new mission.

As for the crock pot...The burnt oranges and olive greens with touches of yellow and browns were the going thing...lol..what terrible taste we had in the 70's..lol..I decorated my house with those colors, noe I have nightmares just thinking about those years...giggle.
Thanks for sharing, have a wonderful day

I love all your vintage stuff...especially the Pyrex Snowflake Blue casserole, it's a cutie!

Ok Sister, I am the one who returned the notebook to you on Thanksgiving day. Even though Dad's name is written in above yours, it had been in my possession for who knows how long. I found it in a box of high school yearbooks when we cleaned out the attic. The amazing thing to me is that it is in "almost new" condition after all of these years!

Keetha, I swear we are twins separated at birth! I still have a notebook from school too. It's very groovy-looking! AND, I have one of those burnt orange crockpots! It was my Grandma's, and it still works perfectly.
I love that blue Pyrex baking dish. I just broke my favorite Pyrex dish :-( Why are they so expensive at thrift stores? I really need to replace it, because I use it several times a week. Ah well, maybe I'll find one at a garage sale!
Happy VTT!

We just found that crockpot at our favorite junky place on the Oregon coast! My mom had one, my M-I-L had one, so even if it's a pain to clean, it's a keeper!

Keetha, I LOVE that you still have your pyrex. LOVE those blue and white dishes!!!! And I have my own set of the cornflower casserole dishes.
The notebook.....LOVE that you still have it too! Several years (like 18) ago I found a notebook that I had taken to school. I used the note book as just that, a "NOTE" book. I passed it back and forth between friends in class and wrote notes back and forth. It was completley full. And I kick myself because I through it away. Some of them (like 3 or 4) were old love notes, etc. and I didnt want my husband to read them. Stupid.I worried it would hurt his feelings. Childish. I threw the whole thing away. I kick myself now, because of the memories in that bound book, all preserved.
I love your books rad colors. Groovy man, like, far out cool!
HA!
GREAt TT post!

Oh, I love the new Vintage Thingy button, really cute!

Finally, you really made my night last night in talking with you! Loved the surprise phonecall! So sweet! Your as precious over the phone as you are online! HUGS!!!!

Thanks, friend, for linking up to Thrifty Thursday on Tales from Bloggeritaville! Great thrifty treasure!

Great post-thanks for the notebook story-I needed a good chuckle!

I have the same silverware! I bought it for myself when I got my first apartment-service for 4 only but I still have it and we use for "extra" silverware because ours is always going on vacation too! Wonder if they're hanging out together at some TikiBar!

Pyrex is an American classic! Thousands of years from now, when archeologists are sifting through the rubble, complete unbroken pyrex cooking dishes will be found.

Cute blog! I think the flatware might be Paul Revered.
