Ye Olde Rat Race
I went back to school yesterday. The students return on Thursday.
This is how the parking lot looks when I arrive each morning. Well, in the winter it looks like this only much much blacker. That's my lonely little jalopy sitting in "my" parking spot.
Oh, whoa to anyone who randomly happens to come earlier than me and takes my spot - - - but that's another story for another blog post.
Last year I wasn't ready to return to school and it felt like half the summer was still ahead of us. This year I'm OK with the return - - - possibly because our weather is really cool for August.
Anyway, yesterday when I went into my room, LOOK what greeted my on my desk:
Do you see that personal, handwritten note???? You know, the one beside my calendar and in front of my texts?
This is from one of my blogging friends, a former graduate of our school, whom I've NEVER met in person!!!! I'm still WAITING to hear the story of how he got into my classroom to leave me this surprise.
Thank you, Joel, it MADE MY DAY.

I am also a teacher and show up before everyone else. Today we had an inservice in another building so I didn't have "my" parking spot when I got back, and it just didn't feel normal! Our students also return Thursday, so good luck to you!
And to you too, Holliedianne. Yah - - - it's a real BUMMER when you have to move your car and someone takes "your" spot!!!! Hehehehehehehe
Holliediane - - - I went to your profile, and there's no blog listed there, so would you please come back and let me know how you found me and who you are????
THANKS for coming, btw!!!
God's best to you in this new year.
How cute is he? (Rhetorical, can you hear it in my voice?)
Love those kinds of surprises!
Thanks Mentor Prof.
Yes, Headless, it was a lovely surprise. I'm sure his twin sister, who is Jaena and whom I know very well, was involved in it!!!
Oh my goodness - if someone (by some CRAZY chance) gets to work before me and takes my space...
Generally I just turn around and drive back home, and call in sick. I don't think I could work a whole day if MY car wasn't in MY parking spot!
LOL LOL LOL Lone!!! Methinks thou art having a little fun with me - - - and I don't blame you - - - it is rather SILLY of me to HATE losing my place, and that is why I shared it here for the whole world to see.
I say bless your little heart to all teachers! I did work with juvenile delinquents, but I didn't have them all day long!
Funny about your blogger friend!
If you get a break from school, just come on down to Panama City and stay at our house and we'll go visit the lighthouse and other Florida landmarks! What part of Florida is your husband from?
Fort Myers. Now his mom is in Madison and his dad is in Naples. When we go to Naples we stay right on Vanderbilt beach with my FIL.
Joel wrote the note when we were "touring" the school to create a trivia test for our 20 year!! class reunion.
We actually slid it under the wrong door because i had stopped by once when you were in the corner classroom and thought it was your room. Some kind soul must have transferred it to your desk for you to see.
You know, I can't even remember how I stumbled upon your blog. I can remember that I have been hooked ever since!
Hope you survived your first day back! I will be going to bed early tonight because, even though it was a 1/2 day, those 3rd graders wore me out!
Awwwww Holliedianne - - - you make me feel so good about my blog!!! Thanks!
Speaking of going to bed early - - - -in the middle of the school year I have been known to be in bed by 5:30. My kids are all grown and gone so I can do that - - - -
Keetha! I'm glad the note found it to your desk. That'll teach me to listen to my twin sister.
(Actually, I should probably listen to my twin sister more often than I do, but that's another story.)
The idea to leave the note was very impromptu and impetuous, but I'm tickled pink that you enjoyed it.
Stay on your toes. You never know when another might appear.
I can do that too, because I have no kids or husband. :) So, I have no one to make fun of me if I need extra sleep!
