Many of you have asked where in the world I've been.

All I know is that after 7 plus years of blogging and a different lappy, which I don’t like, I seem to have lost my blogging fervor.

Someday, when you least expect it, I will post again.

For those of you still waiting I say thank you.

Meanwhile, I am rather prolific on twitter. Find me: @KeethaB

Microscopic Microscope?????

Yep, I heard it today on NPR's "Science Friday."

(Though I found this photo on several sites, I could not find credit for it on any of them.)

Researchers at the California Institute of Technology have developed this microscope which could fit into a cell phone and may only cost $10!!! It could be used in the field to identify pathogens either in patients or in drinking water. I'm sure the sky is the limit as to how it could be used.

It works without using lenses by combining traditional computer-chip manufacturing technology with microfluidics, which is the channeling of fluid on small scales. (I gleaned this information here)

AMAZING!!! I'm getting QUITE excited about the uses of this technology in the science classroom!!!! It costs WAY more than $10/microscope to have the traditional kind cleaned and serviced!!!!

Remember old "Bones" in Star Trek who could just wave a little pen-like object over his patients to diagnose them? Hmmmm maybe Gene Roddenberry wasn't so far fetched after all!!

"Science Friday" is one of my favorite programs and I had just whined to Jim that I missed it today. They post the program contents but I will have to wait a couple days...wah wah!!!

I saw this yesterday, but (sorry) was in a hurry, and didn't comment. We don't seem to get Science Friday in South Carolina.

Amazing. Thanks. I'm going to check further.

I thought you'd be interested in this development!!!

Papa Labar:
Go to the site www.npr.org and on the left side click on "Talk of the Nation"...then click "Get the Podcast" and you will be able to read the program on Friday and yep...our science teacher was "right on". You'll find the topic "Micro Microscope". They don't usually post until the day after the program on Friday.

LOL Grammy!!! I don't know if Dr. LaBar wants to go by Papa or not!!! Please meet our college Biology Professor, Dr. Martin LaBar.

I THINK you were confusing him with Indian Lake Papa - - - - they are two entirely different people.

I imagine if Dr. LaBar sees this he will make one little laugh that sounds rather like a jovial "Hmmmph"

Awww...I like the name "Papa". Can I refer to him as "Sir, Papa, Professor LaBar"???

Hope Indian Lake Papa is not offended. Who knows...IL Papa might even enjoy Science Friday???

I imagine he will be on here sometime soon and answer your question for himself, Grammy.

I must confess - - - since I revere him as my "Mentor Prof" I have a very difficult time putting the Papa on there!

Thanks for asking. My only grandson who can speak (so far -- the other one can't yet) calls me "Poppy," but you can call me anything, as they say, so long as you call me for meals.

Greetings to all.
