Friday Night Sky Watch
Tonight the tornado siren started going off. Hubby and I aren't sure what makes THEM decide to start blowing that siren. So far it's always been a "wolf, wolf" siren and the one time (last August) we DID have a little twister there was no siren.
Anyway, tonight the siren started going off again and we ran outside to do some sky watching.
There were some pretty spectacular clouds in the sky,
Clouds which glowed from the inside with flashbulb lightning. There were also occasional lightning bolts streaking from the clouds to Earth. I tried really hard to capture one of those bolts, but the best I could do was catch a glowing cloud - - -
And more interesting formations - - -
Which changed and - - -
Grew.

Keep trying on those lightning photos. Nice clouds.
I wonder how many clicks it takes to get a good lightning shot!! They say it takes 1,000 casts to catch one musky, so who knows!
So, were there any tornadoes in the area? I always wondered about the tornado alarms. Does it mean one has been sighted or the chances are great that one will form?
As far as I know there were no tornadoes. Your guess is as good as ours as to WHY and WHEN they set them off. I do know this - - - they do it often enough that we look up at the sky when we hear them and then ignore them.
Beautiful sky & cloud pictures. The last cloud is called a "suicide hole" because pilots will try flying thru the hole thinking it's clear on the other side....and the rest is history!!!
Of course those are very inexperienced, amateur pilots that learned a lesson very quickly!!!
As a person who flies quite a bit over LONG distances, Grammy´s comment is quite disturbing!! I hope my pilots are experienced!
They are! I think that is more of a worry with people who fly their own planes for "fun."
I found your new site! And my "unique moniker". But Frogger...why did you chose that one? (It's really funny because I love frogs, and I didn't know if you knew that or not.)
Oh, nice cloud pics by the way!
great pictures, be careful out there!
Megan, I chose "Frogger" for you because the THEME on your locker your senior year was F.R.O.G.
:-)
They turn the sirens on when your city has a tornado warning.
Well then, we are getting warnings for not much provocation!!!
BTW, who are "they?"
Those are cool cloud pictures! That was some "show" we had that night.
