Many of you have asked where in the world I've been.

All I know is that after 7 plus years of blogging and a different lappy, which I don’t like, I seem to have lost my blogging fervor.

Someday, when you least expect it, I will post again.

For those of you still waiting I say thank you.

Meanwhile, I am rather prolific on twitter. Find me: @KeethaB

African Treasures

.

Our Daughter, Keri, went to Uganda Africa the first week of December. It was a life changing trip for her. (If you have not yet done so, please click on the "don't miss THIS" link at the top of this blog.)

Reading her travel reports and impressions took me back to my own trip to Africa. There is something about it that gets in the very marrow of your bones and will never leave you.

While there, Keri thought about us and brought home some treasures for us!! Yesterday this arrived at my door:

As I cut the packing tape and the box flaps opened, this is what I could see.

One of the "packing" items was an old stained t-shirt which, unless I miss my guess, belonged to our SIL. I THOUGHT about taking a picture of it and saying "My daughter went to Africa and ALL I got was this t-shirt!" - - - but thought better of that idea!

These were the treasures in the box. A giraffe, a rhino, and some hand-made beads. I just laid the beads down on the counter and they naturally formed the shape of Africa.

Oh come on - - - I can see the shape of Africa, can't you?

The beads were hand-made from newspaper by a Ugandan woman. NEWSPAPER???? I have no clue how in the world she does that - - - but they are beautiful. I'm going to wear them soon - - - probably Sunday to church.

Thank you Keri for bringing us these treasures!

Yes, I see Africa! And I've seen those necklaces, too. There's a woman in Boulder (CO) who has women in South America and some places in Africa make them for her company and she's been on 60 Minutes telling the tale and how many women she's helped. It's been a huge success.
YOUR necklace is wonderfully dark in color and the statues are divine. Where are you going to put them?
What'd you do with the t-shirt? HA

Hugs,
Jan

I'm so glad you love your treasures so much! No amount of African treasures can repay you for the peace of mind you gave me by taking care of my family while I was gone. I love you both so very much!

What wonderful gifts...and you'll be constantly reminded of your daughter's journey, and the time spent with your grands while she was out of the country!

...and yes, I also see Africa!

Going to Africa would certainly be quite the adventure.
Are you staying warm over there?
Today actually feels pretty nice out!

Ahhh, a Badger! I originate from Madison! I cheer for Wisconsin when I can, but my BYU team already won in the first set - hip hip hooray! What beautiful treasures your daughter brought back and what a wonderful experience for her. That is somewhere I have not been, unless you count Egypt which I guess is in Africa. Have fun wearing these to church.

My parents spent quite a bit of time in Africa when I was in HS. That's where my zebra skin came from. I have lots of those little statues of the animals...nd also skinny people with loads of something on their heads. They loved Africa. I DO see Africa in the beads. And, if you want to know how to make those beads, I can tell you.

Great treasures. One of my favorite ornaments on my tree was made in Africa, beaded by hand, and brought here by a friend's mother a couple years ago.

I remember a Girl Scout project for making beads out of strips of paper that you roll up, although I never did it myself. Good craft and very pretty if you paint the beads afterward. Or if you start with colorful magazine pages, you might not need paint at all, just shellac or some other stiffener.

Gorgeous!! And I thought I was clever when I used newspaper as gift wrap. :-)
