Many of you have asked where in the world I've been.

All I know is that after 7 plus years of blogging and a different lappy, which I don’t like, I seem to have lost my blogging fervor.

Someday, when you least expect it, I will post again.

For those of you still waiting I say thank you.

Meanwhile, I am rather prolific on twitter. Find me: @KeethaB

Thrifty Thingies Thursday - "Tweet" Treat

.
It's THAT time again!!!!
Vintage Thingies Thursday over at Coloradolady and Thrifty Thursday at Bloggeritaville.

Be sure you click on both of the icons or links above to check out what everyone else is posting.

Who remembers Saturday morning cartoons back when they were REAL? I'm not talking about the sharp angles and edges of Japanese Anime - - - I'm talking about the likes of Bugs Bunny, Elmer Fudd, and Mr. Magoo.

In 1973 Pepsi produced a Warner Brother's Collector's series of glasses featuring Saturday Morning Cartoon characters. Sometime circa late 1975 or early 1976 Hardees offered these glasses for a little extra with the purchase of a soft drink.

Fisherhubby and I were newly weds going to school and living on less than a shoestring.

We planned and scrimped so we could eat at Hardees (in Clemson, South Carolina) once a week when the new glass came out. (Win-win! Eat out AND get a collector glass!)

We ate small burgers and fries so we could afford the extra pennies to get two of each of the new glasses - - -

Week after week until the promotion ended.

We got two glasses because we EACH wanted one - - -

And when we got them home, we put one in the cupboard to use, and wrapped the other up in newspaper and stored it away to preserve it.

I don't remember now if we managed to collect ALL of them or not, but I do know these are what we have left - - - in mint condition - - - treasured for the memories.

You are SO right about the cartoons! Kids nowadays don't know what a good cartoon is!
That's a great collection of glasses, and the story to go with it is so cool! It's pretty amazing that they survived without breaking in the sink! That's where I always end up breaking glasses!
Happy VTT!

My first thought when I saw them was how are they in such good shape. Clever of you to store one of each away. Now put them back before you break one.

You refreshed a lot of memories for me today. How well I remember those glasses.

Love your Petunia Pig glass. Petunia Pig is my handle when I post on the Razorback message boards.

How did I miss those at Hardees??? I did have a 3 year old and maybe I couldn't afford to darken the Hardees door. I love them though!

Isn't it cool when you and your Vintage Thingie go waaaay back together? These glasses remind of when I was a kid and they put surprises like your glasses in cereal boxes. My sister and I would dig to the bottom to get the prize - trying our best not to get cereal all over the place!

I have some vintage character glasses that I bought at thrift shops and yard sales in the late 1970s. I never used them and haven't looked at them in years. Not sure what I kept when I moved. I plan to get them out sometime for VTT. I think most are from McDonalds.

I'm jealous! I love vintage collector glasses and those are great! I remember my aunt having some like yours.

I got out my vintage 12 days of Christmas glasses last December. My little Diva Daughter has developed slippery fingers and I have 3rd, 4th, 7th, 9th, 10th and the 11th left ( I think ). She has broken SO MANY of my glasses!

I should have put them back up.

Really enjoyed reading your post. You've got a great collection of cartoon glasses but I really enjoyed reading the story of how you and your husband saved for them and collected them together!

I'm impressed that your glasses are still in mint condition. I used to collect glasses in Dreft laundry detergent.

Regarding cartoons: I'm not old enough to watch some of the new ones. They are so violent!

Those glasses could probably fetch a good price these days. Cute story on saving those pennies.
Thanks for sharing!

I love your Warner Bros glasses. I used to watch these cartoons when I was a child. Tweety Pie was always my favourite. They don't seem to put them on tv anymore and I sure children today would love them.

Wow how cool is that? I remember when the jelly jars were little juice glasses with cartoon characters. Back around the same time frame. Love your cartoon glasses. Happy VTT!

No way! I had these as a kid and I remember my sisters and I fighting over which glass we were going to have!

What treasures! We did something like that, but over the years and a recent move, they were dwindled down. So sad to lose such good friends :)

Thank you for sharing. I got a real smile

Sylvester is my favorite. We used to collect those little glasses that Daisy sour cream came in. But all they had on them were daisy's! Go figure, Lol!

Unknown said...

We had a few of these. They were much better quality than the ones from McDonald's, but we had more of those. They're still the glasses we use at my parents' and they're all faded. But we all know which glass is our's!

Kristin - The Goat said...

What a blast! I see those in the antique shops every so often and have often wondered what fast food place offered them. Even then you were thinking of your future - Use one now, mint antique for later :)

I can't wait to see you!!

I used glassware just like this for
a longtime, it is just fun! The
cartoons back then were the best!
I'll bet next week we'll see jelly
jar glassware, remember those?
Happy VTT!

Hey Keetha!
We collected these also ... did the same as you ... one to use; one to keep unused. However, in all our cross-country moves, we got rid of them during one of the many "clearing out the extra stuff" exercises ... fun memories.
