Spring Arrives in My City

.
If you live in the northern hemisphere, Spring WILL arrive this week on Wednesday, March 20th.

It will NOT matter whether you are having balmy warm temps and blue skies or not.

Once March 20th gets here, it WILL be spring.
.

Round MY city, if you want to FEEL Springy, you have to bring a touch of it indoors.

And no, you can't just pick them outside your door.  They have to be imported from a hot house somewhere cause outside your door you will still be seeing this - - -
.

Snow mountains.
.

These particular snow mountains form when plows push snow out of the way.  You find them at the corners of driveways and all around the edges of parking lots.

This past week we added about 6 more inches (divided between two snow storms) to the snow that had to be piled up into these "very lovely" mountains.
.

Some of us have to "pass through the valley of the shadow of death" to get to our front doors.

We're just happy to have a valley through which to pass!!
.

Some of us are a bit nostalgic and sad knowing our snow mountains are about to shrink away for another year.

Fisherhubby has been heard lamenting on several occasions:  "Our snow is melting, my ice fishing and cross country skiing days are numbered!!"
.

For some it is a matter of life and death - - - as the snow goes, so go they.

But even here, on the frozen tundra,to the discerning eye there are definite signs that Spring is indeed here - - -
.

There are blue skies and sunny days.  There's a definite warmness in the air - - - trust me - - - 27 is HOT after -10.

AND, the days are longer now - - - the sun isn't setting until after 7 pm.
.

The sun beating down for longer hours each day has begun to melt the snow mountains as manifested by rivulets running across parking lots and rushing down into storm sewers.

True - - - more snow may yet fall - - - but it is fighting a losing battle now for the sun WILL ultimately prevail.
.

And last but not least, icicles are forming from eaves and ledges.   These are real harbingers of spring because they mean the snow is melting and refreezing as it drips from high places.

And THAT is how spring is arriving in my neck of the woods!  How's it coming in "by" you?  (That phrase - "by you" is very Wisconsinish, just so you know!)
.

Today I'm joining Unknown Mami
For Sundays in My City.
.
Please hurry over to Unknown Mami's to see
How Spring is coming to other cities around blogland.
.
.
All the photos in this post were taken by me this week (March 10 - 16, 2013) and were NOT resurrected from mid-winter archives, just so you know.

Keeping it REAL 'round here.

I like the beauty of the icicles and of the daffodils.

And I still LOVE that icicle picture! Even though I already told you that via text message. :)

Piper asks me every day "Mama, is it Spring yet? I wanna play outside." Tonight before bed she said "Tomorrow is Spring, right? Please, is tomorrow Spring?"

Poor little Peanut. I checked our forecast and all week is in the 30's.

We must be thinking along the same lines Keetha!
Will spring ever come?
I am having my doubts right now.
But you are convincing me..I think.
I know how your daughter is feeling, Addison told me to get the shovel and make it summer.
hehe.

You don't want to know...but then again you DID ask.
We're at the beach this weekend. Cloudless skies and highs near 80. It's gorgeous here!

Wow! I've never had to walk around in that much snow. That valley looks a tad terrifying although helpful. And the photo of the icicles is absolutely gorgeous.

Sure it will arrive. Keep telling yourself that.

Winter didn't arrive here at all.

Seems it would feel weird-- like spring with snow-- to have longer days now. But I guess that's your sign that spring is on the way. I always liked that extra snow on top of those mountains to clean it up a bit. There's nothing uglier than dirty snow. But maybe that's just found in the city.

We are in the 70s down here today! That snow is so pretty! We haven't had even a single flake this Winter:( Have a blessed Sunday, HUGS!

I really like the icicle shot too. It looks cold, but also offers a promise of warmth, and a spring thaw.

That is a lot of snow! Poor hubby will have to get out his regular fishing rods instead.

The sun came out here today! To me that's more important than the temperature. I'm in need of some UV therapy! Sorry you're sad about the melting snow.

I can't believe how much snow you still have! About 99% of ours melted from the rain this past week.

Holy icebergs Batman, you have a lot of snow. Ours is almost gone. Just where it was piled is all that remains. But then again last weekend we have rain which removed much of the snow but clogged up the local rivers. When is Spring again?

I promise not to shoot snow pics anymore...We've had sunny days for a week but more snow promised next week. Can't wait spring to be here!

You still have a lot of snow on the ground. I bought some daffodils this week.

We had a gorgeous spring day yesterday and I was in shorts and short sleeves! Yes, hallelujah! But today it's gloomy and raining. That's Florida for you! I'm ready for spring....I'm so ready!

Good icicle picture. I think I would not want snow mountains. I am in the Northern Hemisphere, but we don't have spring. Or fall. We have summer and winter. Or dry and wet if you prefer. We are now in summer, because it is hot and dry. Winter, or the rainy season, will come in mid-May.

No icicles here. Instead I hear a parrot chirping in the yard nearby and I see ripe citrus fruit hanging over my side of the wall from a neighbor's garden.

did you create that snow-person? It seems too fancy to a snowman so I'm going with person.

We had a surprise snow dusting yesterday. NOTHING like the snow you have! Love the snowman/woman.

Those icicles are just beautiful! Yes, if I lived in the same city as you, I am sure I would feel sad to see the snow go. What fascinates me is how "pure-white" that snow looks!

The yellow flowers are gorgeous in their vase. I have a thing for yellow flowers! :D

Hugs! Happy Spring to you! We're already experiencing a warm summer here!

I love your snow mountains, a tad bigger than ours. I like thinking icicles mean spring....but sadly it is snowing here. I can't wait fir the real spring, 70's with flowers!

Hallelujah for spring! On Friday, it was in the 70s here and was beautiful. This week will be quite a bit colder, but Friday's weather was a magnificent preview of what's to come!

I love all your pictures. The icicles are a favorite one.

I also love the cobalt blue vase with the yellow flowers. Gorgeous!
